Beauty Benefits of Avocado

Avocados are renowned in various parts of the world for their delicious flavor, smooth texture and high level of nutrients, but they are also a valuable ingredient for skincare and hair care;  many people include them not only in their diets but their beauty routines as well.

A few of the benefits provided by this ‘miracle fruit’ are:

Wrinkle reduction and prevention
Avocados are often used in beauty treatments as a mask, as applying the mashed pulp directly to the skin allows for the absorption of nutrients, softening wrinkles, preventing age spots and protecting the dermis from toxins that can cause premature aging.

Sun screen
Avocado also has nutrients that can act as sun protection, helping to shield the skin from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays. It can even be used to treat sunburn in certain cases.

Nourishes the skin
The oil of the pressed fruit can help care for the skin, and is easily absorbed. It encourages cellular regeneration and leaves the skin soft and smooth.

Protects the hair
In addition to the skin, avocado can help protect the hair from the sun and also from daily use of products like shampoo and conditioner. Its fats, vitamins and omega 3 fatty acids leave the hair polished and shiny.

Hydrates the scalp
Just as with the facial skin, avocado oil moisturizes the scalp and even stimulates the hair follicles, improving blood circulation, revitalizing dry and damaged hair, and even promoting healthier growth.

Now that we’ve told you about a few of the benefits of avocado, here are two recipes to include in your beauty routine and experience them for yourself.

Facial cleanser
This recipe helps clear your pores and eliminate the excess oil and dirt your skin absorbs throughout the day. To make your own mask, you’ll need:

  • ½ cup mashed avocado

  • ½ cup cow’s milk

  • 1 egg yolk

Beat the egg yolk until foamy, before adding the avocado and milk. Mix until you obtain a smooth, lotion-like consistency.

Smooth the mixture onto your face and leave on for 15-20 minutes to allow your skin to fully absorb all the nutrients. Rinse with warm water and enjoy cleaner, softer and smoother skin.

Hair recipe
This recipe allows you to nourish your hair, leaving it hydrated and rejuvenated. To prepare, you’ll need:

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1 mashed avocado

  • 1 tbs. plain yogurt

  • A little olive oil

Mix the egg yolk, avocado, yogurt and a small drizzle of olive oil to form a smooth paste.

Spread the mixture evenly throughout your hair and cover with plastic wrap. Leave on for 30 minutes before washing with your favorite shampoo. We recommend a gentle, natural shampoo if possible.
